Owls in Pumpkins and Spider Webs

Yeah, JEN'S GOT HER GROOVE BACK!!!

I'm back in the kitchen and feeling much better. I was BUSY today.

I woke up early this AM and started thinking about some round cookies that I had all ready to go in my freezer....I was dying to frost them and make something pretty out of them! I had a few things in my mind that I had recently copied so I jumped out of bed and went to work!! And got them all done today.

The Owl in Pumpkin cookie was inspired by Sugarbelle. I used a slightly different shape than she did but think they turned out pretty good.

There is quite a bit of detail in the eyes....Using about 3 layers of wet frosting to create those.....

The rest of the cookies I decorated today were inspired by The Baking Sheet. Once again a slightly different shape than she used but I think the round shape worked too!

And I"m already starting something else for fun!!! Getting right back into the baking which is so nice to be able to do! I had to have a picture of myself rolling cookies - there rarely is any proof that I"m actually the one that does anything!

Happy Baking,
Jen

More Baking!

Fun in the kitchen this weekend!!!

Trevor wanted to make more of our difficult muffins from the package this weekend!! Hey, why not, right? But this time he thought it was much better to put the real cookie frosting I was using on top. I can see where that would be much tastier, right?

Then we decided to do some REAL baking together and he was quite happy about that. Glad to be able to help me Lock and Load my mixer and crack some eggs. He even wore his Chef's hat as you can see.

I'm a fan of "Bars" and tried a recipe from The Gourmet Cookie Book, Coconut Bars. I'm not a huge fan of coconut but this was just the right mix. Not too strong and has walnuts in it. A cake like bar that tasted pretty yummy to me!

Seems all the "Bars" Cookies that I make look pretty similar when you take pictures of them - ha!

Happy Baking.

Yes, I was able to BAKE!

So I know I won't be up to some real baking for quite awhile as I recover from my hematoma, but I had to do something! Trevor was wanting to help me too. So this weekend we made Muffins! With only 2 ingredients - the mix and water - how perfect is that for me?? A bit disappointing for my helper who LOVES to crack eggs.... But Trevor was fine with pouring the mix in, measuring the water and stirring for me. And what's better is the package only made 5 which is all we really needed! While I thought the muffins were quite tasty as is, Trevor insisted of a mountain of sprinkles on his. Quite colorful! Instead of sprinkles, I put fruit with mine...yum..... Here's Trevor and Mommy as a team - take one with using the tripod to take our picture! And take 2!!! Go Trevor and Mom!

Whale Cookies

These aren't something I just did this week either....sigh...Good news is I AM on the road to recovery, but I think it will be a bit more time before I'm up to rolling out and decorating cookies. Darn it my luck too bc Halloween and Fall are my favorite, favorite, cookies to make!

I had some extra dough and had seen this idea the same week so decided to try my hand at these cute whale cookies. They are a whale cookie cutter making the spout out of a scallopped cookie cutter and attaching them. I found these on Cristin's Cookies. Hers were so cute and I had just gotten a whale cookie cutter too!

I only made 12 of these but they were fun to make!

Banana Bars and Pina Colada Cake

Before I was down for the count, I did some baking that I hadn't gotten a chance to post.....

I found a yummy cake recipe when I was thinking about what to have for company a few weeks ago. The appeal was that this recipe was only ONE layer of a in inch pan. Because my goodness, what do we ever do with 2 layers anyway? You can find this on Smitten Kitchen Here.

The cake was very easy to make, very moist and just the right amount.
Next time I would look for more of a topping or frosting than what it called for. It was yummy, just think something more could have jazzed it up!
If you like bananas and are looking for a good bar recipe, try the Banana Fosters Bars . They were really easy to make and yummy too.

Happy Baking....although it may be awhile before I'm back up to doing anything!!

Happy Birthday!

I've been busy making cookies for a Birthday celebration this week! And what is better than celebrating an 80th Birthday? Wow! Certainly something to be healthy and happy at 80 years old! Yeah!
And nothing more yummy than my cookies to have for dessert!

Cherry Snowballs

I haven't been doing much baking lately!! A bit of a lull still. But back at it this week with an order on the horizon!

I did make one small thing this weekend....so thought I would share.

A quick and easy little dessert... Cherry Snowballs. There are only a few ingredients in this and it tastes pretty good! I watned something to go with some ice cream I was going to have with dessert and made 1/2 a batch of these. Hardly any prep time to this! I would recommend putting a whole cherry in even though the recipe calls for a 1/2. My taste testers thought it would be better with more cherry! And the testers are always right!

Half a batch made about 14 snowballs which was just right. A small cookie with a surprise in the middle - yummy!

Happy Baking!
